DRAFT
Washington Energy
Committee Minutes
Feb. 12, 2009
Present: Al Krygeris, Bob Fraser and Johanna Young
Absent: Jerry Klohs and Lindley Rankine
1. 0 January minutes were accepted as written.
2. 0 Old Business:
- Old
Home Day Bob and All said it's pretty certain it will happen this year.
- Bob
suggested we invite PSNH to bring one of their trucks for the parade as
recognition for their help with the December ice storm. We will draft a
letter to send to them, next month, if the Olde Home Day committee agrees
it would be a nice gesture.
- Johanna
will contact a colleage from work who might be able to display the
electric car that was made by Good News Garage, Vermont.
- Deadline
to request funding for help with cost of energy/conservation commission
display is early May.
- Bob
called Ed Cherian about tours of the Lempster windmills. There will be two
tours sometime this spring. He will keep us posted. A group from the town
might like to go.
- Town
Meeting:
- Bob
supplied some handouts to make available at town meeting on home energy
savings. We would also like to invite more people to be on the committee.
- At
town meeting we will be available to speak about energy savings realized
this year when the topic arises. Al doesnŐt see a place where we could
make a formal speech since we do not have an article on the warrant.
- Al
suggested we post useful links about energy issues on the town website.
Johanna noted that there are already some links up on the Washington
Conservation Commission pages, but more could be added. Nan Schwartz is
the webmaster for that section. We can let town residents know that
resource is there.
- Night
Lights:
- The
selectmen will let people know which lights they will be switching off.
This will be addressed at town meeting. A resident suggested we turn them
all off, but that is a safety concern. Al noted that even if each lights
costs $125 to switch off, the savings would be made up within a year, most
likely. He would like to check the electric bills to see how much we pay
in rent for each lamp per year.
- Proposed
Town Hall renovations:
- Al expressed concern that the Town Hall plans don't include enough energy savings. A lot of heat is being lost through the old windows.
3. 0 New Business:
- The
committee filled out a questionnaire from the NH Smart start program and
handed it to the selectmen for mailing.
- Announcements:
the Northeast Organic Conference is in early March. See
- Nofanh.org
for more details.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:04 p.m.
Respectfully submitted by,
Johanna Young,
Washington Energy Committee Chair
