DRAFT Washington Energy Committee Minutes – March 12, 2009

Present: Johanna Young, Lindley Rankine, Al Krygeris, Bob Fraser

1.0       Minutes from Feb. approved.

2.0       Because Old Home Day won't happen till next year we discussed alternative activities for the EC. Possible ideas: another speaker or movie – this time we would hold the event at the Congregational church as it's more central

3. 0      Al reported on the NOFA conference. There will be a lot of incentives coming up to install alternative energy sources and for home winterization between state incentives, federal incentives and the economic stimulus monies. To keep town residents informed we proposed to post information on the WCC web pages and also forward information to be included in the Selectmens' minutes as we receive information. Johanna suggested we could use the farmer's market in the summer (assuming it happens this year) to give out information.

To sign up for information email: jack.ruderman@puc.nh.gov.

There will also be grants for farmers and that fund is currently underutilized

4.0       Al suggested we check into buying a blower door or for training. A blower door is a way of measuring the energy efficiency of a hourse.

5.0       Al said the prices of solar are coming down. He has been in touch with Pablo in Keene to get estimates for his own residence. To install a hot water solar heater is about $6K and the payback time is approximately 3 years.

6.0       Bob thought the having a solar wind farm for the town would be a good idea.

7.0       Johanna suggested we could use the farmer's market in the summer (assuming it happens this year) to give out information.

8.0       We still have $20 left from the Christmas Fair of '07. We are going to spend it on a book or CD on energy savings.

Meeting adjourned at 7:44 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Johanna Young
