Washington Energy Committee

April 12, 2012 Minutes

Present: Bob Fraser, Al Krygeris and Johanna Young

Visitor: Andrew Hatch

Minutes were approved by consensus.

Andrew introduced himself and expressed his interest in the committeeŐs work

Old Business:

Post – Local Energy Conference wrap-up. Members were impressed with this yearŐs keynoter from the military who talked about energy conservation as a security issue.

Al went to a workshop on street lighting. Other towns have gone through a similar process to us in terms of reducing our lighting footprint. Everyone also attended a land use workshop. Al will look at BedfordŐs master plan to see if their energy plan would be something we would want to adopt.

Bob discussed the energy audit done on his house. He also plans to organize a Button-up 102 workshop this fall and spoke to people at the conference about Button-up.

Andrew is interested in bio-diesel. He runs his truck on it and buys it on 89 near Enfield. It burns vegetable and animal fats oil. He is contemplating building a bio-diesel manufacturing site that would be called Granite State Fuels. He would like to have a local collection center to recycle used vegetable oils. Now we have to go all the way to Claremont to recycle household vegetable oils.

He and his wife also own Lotions and Potions in Concord and are part of Greenconcord.org.

The Committee recommended that Andrew join the committee and Johanna said she would write a letter to the select board recommending he be appointed to the committee.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Johanna H. Young
