Washington Energy Committee

May 8, 2008

Minutes

Present: Al Krgyeris, Lindley Rankine and Johanna Young

1.0  Minutes were accepted as written.

2.0  Old Business: final details for first Green film night were discussed

Al suggested we also have speakers in addition to the film series. He suggested we contact the science teacher from Alstead, Tim Sintros, who is a good speaker. He could speak on a variety of issues. This will be part of our committee's mission to educate.

Johanna will check with the Church Media Center in Concord to see what other films they might have to show as part of our series.

3.0  New Business: Al suggested we also provide opportunities for residents to learn about how they can lower their energy costs at home. He also mentioned a program called STEM, a program in CT to train people in energy auditing. However we would need 5 or more churches to join the program in order to receive free training (a $3,000 value). The Committee discussed making sure that the Energy Committee is part of discussions when the town is considering upgrading its buildings. Johanna to draft letter for next meeting to the selectmen.

4.0  Al suggested we go to the State Dept. of Energy site to get information about energy savings. We could give these out at the farmer's market, for example.

5.0  The Committee also talked about suggesting the library purchase the Green Guide for the library.

Meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
