Washington Energy Committee
Minutes May 14, 2009
Revised 7/8/09
Present: Bob Frazer, Johanna Young, Al Krygeris and Lindley Rankine
1.0 Minutes from previous meeting accepted and approved as written.
2.0 Old biz: we need to request funds to attend the local energy committee meeting in June. Johanna has been in touch with the Washington Conservation Commission about funding to attend. The event will take place on June 20. Bob, Al and Johanna plan to go. Cost: $45.
3.0 New biz: Johanna asked the committee if we should have another green film night. All agreed and we plan to schedule a movie night sometime in July, when summer people could also attend.
Event to be held at the church, if approved.
4.0 A link to the application for refund for home energy conservation projects is now available. We need to have a link put on the WCC website.
5.0 Kids and others are taking a fieldtrip to the dedication of the wind turbines in Lempster on June 19th.
6.0 Al reported on a hearing he went to at the State House on Climate Change. James Hansen, one of the early proponents of climate change, spoke. Hansen said that clean coal is not a possible. Hansen also said that there is a new kind of nuclear power that burns only 2% uranium and might be a viable part of the energy mix in the future. He also talked about the high use of energy to power agriculture and city lighting.
7.0 Bob asked how we felt about considering a wind farm in Washington. A discussion about this was left for future meetings.
The meeting adjourned at 7:46 p.m. The next meeting will be held on June 11 at the Town Hall.
Respectfully submitted,
Johanna Young, Energy Committee Chair
