Washington Energy Committee Minutes
August 2014
Present: Johanna Young, Al Krygeris, Andrew Hatch
The meeting convened at 7 p.m.
Andrew showed us a photo of the Washington solar array that was paired with an article about a proposed solar array in Hillsboro, to be constructed by NH Solar Garden. Peterborough select board also just voted to consider a major solar project in that town.
Old Business:
Discussed Washington Warm Neighbors.
Al reported he had sent an email to Recover to ask about what they do when they do weatherization projects for residences in Vermont. He is waiting to hear back from Rob, the coordinator of the program and will follow-up. Al reported that smoke sticks cost $51 and he might be willing to donate it to the project, if we donÕt get funding right away. He also has a kit for sealing leaky windows he can donate. Johanna can donate some shrinkable window kits, brown chalking and maybe foam.
The Committee would like to do some low hanging fruit projects to get started and so the residents who need help at least get some help before winter begins. The project may span more than one season, but the Committee will begin with the most doable projects first, even if we donÕt get additional volunteers right away. Our work might inspire others to join.
Action Items:
Johanna will email another resident who is interested in receiving our teamÕs help that Andrew will call to arrange a site visit. That person may also be interested in joining the committee, given the personÕs background.
Al will contact the resident we visited last month and perform a smoke stick test and additional assessment.
Andrew will follow up with the Small Grass roots fund coordinator to ask if our project seems fundable.
New Business:
Andrew expressed interest in becoming Chair. Recently Johanna expressed interest in giving someone else the opportunity of becoming Chair after having served since its creation in 2007.
Al made a motion to elect Andrew as Chair, Johanna seconded. Vote was unanimous. Johanna will contact the Washington Conservation Commission to see if their approval is necessary. Andrew will attend the next WCC meeting in September.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30 a.m.
Respectfully submitted by,
Johanna Young, Secretary Pro Temps
