Washington Energy Committee
August 23, 2012
Revised Minutes
Present: Johanna Young, Bob Fraser, Al Krygeris, Andrew Hatch
June Minutes were approved as written with one small spelling correction.
Old Business:
The insulation for the Washington Elementary School has been completed.
We discussed working with planning board to encourage writing a warrant article for the next town meeting to upgrade the police station for energy efficiency. Johanna will contact the planning board to see if we could come to a meeting. The police station also needs structural work. The planning board meets the first Tuesday of every month. Perhaps we could go in October? Al said if we could put out an RFP we could get an estimate of how much the energy savings would be. Al also mentioned that when the Town Hall is renovated the Committee should keep an eye on excessive lighting.
New Business:
Residents with woodstoves with duct work in town can get a $5,000 off the house value to lower their tax burden. One must apply to the tax assessor for this tax break. The provision has been in effect since the 1970Ős.
We discussed the possibility of doing a green tour in town. Al said we could get the information about who might be good to be on the tour (i.e. folks with solar panels) from the tax assessor.
Other projects the committee is considering:
Green film series. Andrew subscribes to a film series at the Red River theater in Concord. Bona Fide Green Goods of Concord will lend out films for discussion purposes. We could have a potluck movie night with discussion. Andrew will get a list for us to examine.
Energy Demos:
Andrew will find out some information on how people are trained to weatherize homes. Perhaps we could get a grant to have people in town help folks by weatherizing their homes.
Meeting adjourned at 8:28 p.m.
Respectfully submitted by,
Johanna Young
